Poker advice for the beginner live poker players
Poker advice for the beginner live poker players

Even experienced players don’t play in optimal play all the time. In a sense they make rude mistakes and don’t use all the information in their possession. We don’t even speak of the newbies who’ve just sat at their first playing table. Their eyes sparkle and their mind generates difficult bluffs, hands are shaking and soul sings.

We’ve already written of poker etiquette and how to define opponents who are afraid of losing money. This article is a little bit different. This is not a set of recommendation for the beginners of games in any live poker facility. Be prepared to everything from Day 1 and learn on your mistakes.

Poker etiquette: How to behave at the poker table
Poker etiquette: How to behave at the poker table

Strictly defined conduct rules do not reflect the situation fully in all the cases. Rules are just a framework that needs to be filled. Etiquette has this function of filling in. In most cases, players don’t realize this term correctly.

What is etiquette? It is the way to behave that is expected – in this case – by the players at the table. Etiquette is a set of requirements of behavior in any society. Poker society is also social, so it has some unwritten rules.

Poker in Romania, part 1: Players, Series and Negreanu
Poker in Romania, part 1: Players, Series and Negreanu

First part of the story of poker in Romania, or how to play poker in Romania, if you will, will tell you mostly about the players and poker situation in the country in general. Unfortunately, Romania is far from financial well-being in all senses. But people here love poker very much. However, for some of them this love is forced.

The second part is completely about Romanian poker clubs with the most interesting of them described with commentaries of the experienced regular.

“Romanian players – are natural-born gamblers and they believe in luck. The first thing I’ve noticed is5-7x raises. This sizing is common for tournaments and cash games at all stakes. I got used to standard 3x raises. And here you also get 4-5 people calling you after the raise of increased size”.

How to crush low stakes in live poker
How to crush low stakes in live poker

Most of today’s books teach to be tight playing at the low stakes in casinos or poker clubs. Being TAG is profitable but it is also profitable to crush the stakes. To destroy your opponents and get your win rate to the maximum you must act in other way. Some of the principles are good for small stakes in live poker, the others are universal for all stakes.

How often do you see tight players with big stacks (6+ times bigger that the buy-in)? Usually people with most chips are the most aggressive opponents; sometimes they get them with several coolers.

But the point is still the same. Aggression is always better than passiveness, especially at the low stakes ($1/$2, $2/$5). Aggression in position is the key to success. That is an obvious live poker strategy.

Golden rule: play as many pots as you can in position. Bunch of limpers and you have J-10o on the button? Raise! You’ve got Q-8s on CO and limpers keep limping? Raise! Set of treys? Raise!

WSOP Main Event 2014: Gentlemen, place your bets
WSOP Main Event 2014: Gentlemen, place your bets

Only one week separates us from the biggest final table of the year - November Nine. Traditionally, the best skilled theoreticians of the world – those, who are connected with bookmaking – evaluated who is going to be the most likely winner and owner of 10 million dollar prize.

Waiting for the end of the most interesting poker event till November – despite of the fact that the tournament itself started in summer – is very boring. It’s just like with the final season of “Breaking Bad” – it was also divided into two parts. And that was dreadful.

Poker in the Ukraine
Poker in the Ukraine

Just about a year ago poker in the Ukraine was listed as a sport. Clubs are placed all over the country – in Lvov, Kharkov, Dnepropetrovsk, Cherkassy and, certainly, Kiev.

History of the Ukrainian industry of gambling is very much similar to the one in Russia. The law which forbids gambling came in force in 2009. It actually made a lot of casinos and slots machine clubs working undercover.

5 years later we can’t say that the situation has changed significantly. Big and little gambling houses are being closed for several times a year. It is a common practice.

Poker in Germany
Poker in Germany

In one of the most powerful EU countries people do love and respect gambling games. Every major city has at least one casino. Moreover poker is presented in the bulk of the gambling venues. Let’s hear more of German poker.

German history is complicated, contradictory and during some periods dreadful. In the first half of the 20th century the population of Germany was far from entertainment. So was it in the next decades. But casinos have existed in Germany for a long time already – even from the end of the 18th century.

Gaming industry of one of the leading European countries is characterized with draconian taxes – up to 80% – and tight state control. A few years ago a prohibition on work of private gaming companies set on the territory of Germany, but then it was raised under the European Union duress.

EPT London: At the top of the double-decker

The busy week in the capital of Great Britain resulted in the victory of the German Sebastian Pauli in the Main Event (£499,700) and the triumph of the Canadian Andrew Chen in High Roller (£394,200). The both had to fight to a finish.

It’s raining in London as usual. Actually in Great Britain there are approximately 100 rainy days a year. But it would be alright if the price of housing, food and services was not so high. In short, not all the players could afford the journey to the capital of Great Britain.

Nevertheless we witnessed one of the most spectacular events of the European Poker Tour in recent memory.

Rise of the Machines, or Why Is It Better to Play Alive
Rise of the Machines, or Why Is It Better to Play Alive

Machine Tartanian 7 is said to be the best poker robot. In fact, the robot which operation is based on Nash equilibrium in heads-up gambling is unwinnable. And it will be soon when its analogues will appear in the network.

In the famous Hollywood masterpiece Terminator the story was about Skynet artificial intelligence that would trigger off the nuclear war, and human race would become an endangered breed.

Thanks God that scriptwriters’ idea is far from turning it into reality, though local analogues already exist.
