Several years ago the whole Indian poker was centered in Goa, the main resort of the country with endless beaches and serenity of Arabian Sea. Recently poker vector started to move towards Bangalore and other big cities (like Calcutta). We can’t say Goa has lost the lead yet, but it’s coming soon.

Currently the country with the population of 1.3 billion people has several poker centers - in Goa and Bangalore in particular. There are just several states  available for legal play – such as Nagaland, Sikkim, West Bengal and Karnataka. The former two have population of no more than 3 million total, while the latter two have over 155 million habitats!

Malaysian company is going to build a new casino complex in Sihanoukville at the south of Cambodia. Resort city has about 15 gambling facilities functioning and the Chinese are having a nice close look to it.

Asia can’t stop surprising us. While Atlantic City gets bankrupt, gambling corporations in Cambodia and Vietnam have huge plans. On the March, 1st Malaysian company SV International got approved from Cambodian authorities to invest money into new huge project in Sihanoukville: sun and seashore, casinos, hotels – all together as usual.

The issue with gambling license is still up in the air. Salient Ventures company, which belongs to SV International, have already announced they bought the license, the finance minister of the country says otherwise.

The decision of Kolkata Supreme Court has become the triumph of Indian law and a celebration to all poker amateurs in the country: the police have no more authority to close poker clubs and the game is no longer illegal. The number of people who have just got access to the popular game of cards is approximately 91 million!

We have already written about poker in India and Japan when spoke about indirect factors pointing out that poker boom is coming in these countries. Indian Aditya Agarwal and Japanese Kosei Ichinose became members of Team PokerStars. And the biggest poker room in India Adda52 has created its own team of professional players – Team Spades.

And the situation with live poker in India is quite similar to what happens in the USA. India also has stated and laws in each state differ – in case of poker also.
